Disk Utility

Due to a bug in the version of Disk Utility on the DVD that comes with Intel-based Macs, I can’t restore my computer from a disk image. The tone of the Apple support article was “gee, this is just out of our control.” Come on, guys. How many lines of code do you have to change to make it so I can drag the disk image onto the “restore” box.

That’s really lame, Apple.

They want me to boot from another external drive and use the normal version of Disk Utility to restore from. Right, like I just have this stack of one-time-use external drives.

So no native Windows install any time soon, and no usable voice-rec. Wonderful.

Sunrise

I was waiting for my second tier of backups to complete (an upload of my important documents, contacts, and email to Amazon’s super-reliable S3 servers at $.15 / gigabyte), and decided to go to Sunrise for Starbucks, but as soon as I got to Marconi I realized my tags expired (which Adrian adroitly pointed out last night). I did, however, find my driver’s license…but I don’t want to get a ticket. That’s the last thing I need right now.

If only I would have written myself a note before I went to sleep last night…

Restore

It’s a long story as to why, but I’m going to be doing a full restore of my OS. Well, actually it’s a simple story…my drive is fragmented and I can’t partition it to use Boot Camp because some of the crucial OS files can’t be moved to the part of the drive that the partition doesn’t…well, never mind. But I might not be on for a bit if this fails.

Test #2 of OSX commences: restoring from a backup.

Forbidden Love

I’ve been on the phone with my mom for about thirty minutes listening to the Madonna concert. She’s singing Forbidden Love right now!

Madonna

Oh my gosh! My mom is seeing Madonna at Madison Square Garden as we speak! I want to go so bad! She said she’s going to call me when she hears “Sorry” or “Future Lovers”!

Eek!

I’ve been rocking out to The Bravery and the Black Eyed Peas all freaking day. I tried to get myself to not like the Black Eyed Peas forever, but I can’t help loving them. I mostly hated them because they cameoed in that TERRIBLE movie Be Cool that Josh forced me to see (to his credit, he didn’t know how terrible it was, he hadn’t seen it before…but still).

I tried out my grandma’s sound system today and it is TERRIBLE. I need to stop capitalizing that word. It sounded worse than my iPod’s headphones, which is pretty hard to do. She runs the signal from the CD changer through this ancient amplifier (circa 1970)…and I think the speakers are half blown out. I almost want to move my surround sound system in there solely out of pity.

I wish my phone’s battery wasn’t dead. I must call Kelly!

Perhaps a shower would be a better idea for right now. I smell like a yak. The one thing about this heat that sucks is you have to take three showers a day. Not that I mind, of course. That means I get to condition my hair three times. Lol.

I can’t seem to get my voice-rec to work…I don’t know what the culprit is. Either my USB mic is on its last legs or the problem is the sound translation through the VM. The VM never used to eat up so much memory and it used to run so much faster. I think I’ll restart and not load any startup programs and see if that helps. But for now, it’s shower time.
