Man, today was so insane…waking up with my boy at 8 a.m., driving his brother downtown for the CT scan…back along Fair Oaks sun streaming through the windows talking with Adrian’s dad about graphic design…back towards downtown on Fair Oaks: Walnut, Arden, Watt, J Street…stopped at the job fair (be a correctional officer or be in the army!) back in the car with the needle in the red on the heat gauge..50th, 40th, 30th, 20th, endlessly looking for parking…found one space that was more than one hour…darn…no quarters, but found my debit card!
Got out of the car, walked block after block… F, G, H, I, J, K…found the capitol building, it was very beautiful…called my mom on the cell phone, wandered around a pavilion of lobbyists, found a bench in Capitol Park and talked on the phone with my mom for a few hours…I wandered along the streets talking to her, ended up at the Westfield Plaza, the big open-air mall downtown…it was my fantasy, talking on my unlimited cell minutes in the beautiful, sunny, warm downtown with all the beautiful people around…said goodbye to my mother and walked back towards the car…it was 4 p.m. then. Incredibly thirsty…drove back towards Carmichael, got to my grandma’s house after this huge traffic jam at Watt and Fair Oaks, drank three huge glasses of icewater, and went onto the ‘net.
Adrian called me at around five-thirty, we had planned to go out to eat. I was feeling shitty, so I jumped in the shower, drove over to his house to pick up a few prescriptions he’d forgotten there, and headed back down Fair Oaks towards the downtown yet again. I love that drive, it’s so beautiful. It took long enough, but I found him. He was at the library on I Street. I parallel parked a few blocks away, walked over, took the elevator to the fourth floor, and there he was. I love finding him in the middle of the city. It’s like we were meant to meet…which we were…but still, it seems like destiny every time I come upon him.
We went out to eat at Hamburger Mary’s (mostly because Amanda raved about it when she came here) and I got a Boca burger. Adrian got a sandwich, and we reminisced about the day. He wasn’t feeling too well. After eating, we went over to the Office Max across the street. We got some pens, two clipboards, and struck up a conversation with the checkout lady (who was three sheets to the wind on some kind of drug). After that we went to the Alhambra Safeway and then over to the Rite Aid to refill one of his prescriptions that Adrian needed. He was having problems talking…I was very concerned when we were at the restaurant, but he told me it was nothing to worry about.
We voyaged over to Kelly’s house to set up their Internet (something I’d been wanting to do since yesterday when it showed up), and I had the fortune of locking my keys in the car. We prevailed though, after about thirty minutes of sticking a clothes hanger in the window Adrian got it open with a screwdriver. I was so relieved! The lock won’t open with the key any more, but that’s a small price to pay. We decided to just crash here, as Adrian’s key was damaged in the car opening escapade. My god, it’s 1 a.m. I need to sleep. I’ve been awake since 8 a.m….that’s more hours than my brain can process right now.
I’m off to dreamland.
