we are on the same high, you and I
Yesterday was so fun!
Christen and I went to Six Flags: Discovery Kingdom. We were supposed to wake up at about eight o’clock in the morning… but we said that to each other after already staying up until 2 a.m., so we really ended up waking up at around 11:30 a.m. We left Sacramento at about noon, and after the endless hell that was the trip to LA (miles and miles of highway with nothing to eat and no gas stations) the two-hour drive on I-80 was rather glamourous.
We stopped at a fruit stand right before we left town and got a bunch of strawberries and cherries, which we munched the entire way.
It was Cinco De Mayo, but it was also a Saturday, so we didn’t really know what the crowd would be like. According to Christen, it was not bad at all, although it was the most people I had ever seen there. She told me horror stories of thousands of people packed in like sardines in every inch of the park *shudder.* it was only crowded the first few hours we were there.
We rode the Medusa, of course, and walked around to look at the wildlife. Can you call caged animals wildlife? we saw the elephants first, which was horribly depressing. Elephants are such intelligent creatures and you could just see in their eyes that they just wanted to die. However, the giraffes looked a little less depressed…and the butterflies were freaking out about all of the nectar everywhere. We ended up being at the right place at the right time and we saw this cute sea lion show.
After that, I think we rode a few more roller coasters (and blew our necks out more each time). The last one we went on was the wooden roller coaster, which was much more intense than I thought.
Sometime during the day we had decided to go to Ocean Beach in San Francisco after we got done at the park, so we jumped onto I-80 and went to the city. With the help of Google Maps on my phone (it’s so odd to never be lost), we got to Ocean Beach in record time.
It was very cold, but still beautiful. We walked all the way out to the waves, which were lit from spotlights that were mounted on a building high on the bluff. On the drive back we kept looking for food, but there was no parking and it was just all Asian food… we ended up eating at In-n-Out Burger, which is my new favorite place to eat. I absolutely loathe fast food, but their stuff is fresh, never frozen, and not full of petrochemicals. We were so hungry by the time we actually found some places to eat, that we went to Outback Steakhouse, but only sat down and saw their outrageous prices we left and went to the burger joint ;)
We just could not stop laughing that day (it became a curse as we really had to pee later in the trip)… in the Outback parking lot we were going on about powerwalking away from zombies because we couldn’t run anymore ;)
Blasting the Dresden Dolls (especially rocking out to “Bank of Boston Beauty Queen”), we made the way back to Sacramento in record time. Instead of turning in early (it was around 1 a.m.), we decided to go out to Folsom, where Christen is going to live. It was a very long drive, but we did find her dads apartment complex and haxz0red our way inside the gated community (we followed another car in). It looked so awesome and upscale. The only other thing I remember from the Folsom leg of the trip was us like dying of laughter in this Shell station parking lot…I don’t even remember what we were laughing about.
I woke up on Christen’s catch and she drove me home this morning before she went to work. There was a meeting in my Second Life group (the Voice Mentors group) about the current issues facing the voice community. It was pretty cool, I got to meet the moderator and a bunch of other people involved in the project. My task is to work on a page for the group on the official Second Life wiki, so that we can make a list of events that will be held on the announcement of voice on the main grid.
I wrote a small article on the voice thing. The second life wiki is really weird… it is so dead. There are like no editors and no admins. Most of the important pages haven’t even been written yet. Well, I’m all about writing wikis, so I should have no problems. At least it’s not like Wikipedia, where one feels like overzealous users are watching your every edit.
I wrote up a big list of things to do today, and then I restarted my computer without saving it, so I’m going to pretend that I’ve done them all. I must send my mom her Mother’s Day card. I know I have stamps somewhere…oh, I should ask my grandma. Then I will be all done with today’s activities and can go for a jog.
Hove you guys noticed that the site is much less sluggish since I enabled that caching plugin? Maybe it’s just me.
