wiki-mania

I was on the bus today whittling away my Dorothy Parker Collected Works when I had this fantastic idea: I could use my wiki to record my favorite albums for each year and make kind of an overview page of what happened. I was publishing my blog as individual books, but I kind of ran out of ideas for the covers. I mean, what it image can sum up a year of your life?

Anyway, so when I got home I decided to go on my wiki and make a cool playlist for each year. Instead, I found some really odd vandalism that have been there for a while. It’s quite interesting what people say when they don’t think anyone’s watching. I wish I had the time to update the articles — it’s very depressing that Patrick’s article says that he had only lived in Oklahoma for like four months. It’s been years and years now.

I always intended for the wiki to be a really campy repository of social lore, but I would need a staff of writers and a dedicated assistant to make that happen. I also wanted to mesh the wiki in more on my blog, but I never figured out how to work out the complicated PHP calls that would be necessary to make that happen.

So I redesigned the wiki a bit and looked over the changes. There was a lot of vandalism and odd things on pages of friends, I deleted those. I want to redesign it, but mediawiki is horrible to skin.

So yeah, Camera Obscura on Wednesday. It a pretty awesome show. The kids are in town the last few days, so I’ve gotten very little done.

But I did get FIOS on Thursday. I now have 15Mb downstream and 5Mb upstream (it maxes out at 60 megabits, if I really wanted it) compared with our old DSL (3Mb down 768Kb up). I’m in heaven.
