Wish I’d brought my iPod 0

I’m waiting for the bus to NY, tonight is an awesome special event with Nomi (of Hercules and Love Affair) and members of Metro Area (a band I never thought I’d see live ever.

Last night was kind of a bust, Jon and I were going to go to this thing about John Lennon but it was closed. We watched a Woody Allen movie instead. Then we smoked hookah, had some beer, and watched It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

I was going to go horseback riding with my mom for her birthday today, but it was raining so we couldn’t go.

So I’m hoping tonight will make up for this weekend’s numerous false starts. I did, however, do something awesome. On Thursday, I took the NJT rail home instead of the bus. It’s $4 cheaper round-trip, and I can easily ride my bike to the station.

It goes way faster (no traffic) and the route is as the crow flies since the rail infrastructure predated the highway system. In a word: awesome.

It also leaves more frequently than the bus.

I desperately need to go clothes shopping, but I got up at 3pm this afternoon, so that wasn’t exactly an option. I’m hoping that I can get to Macy’s before they close because I desperately need new shoes before tonight. Mine are hellza falling apart. Also, since I lost so much weight, new stuff is in order. I just need a day with no resopnsibilities and nowhere to go, so I can just restock everything.

I also finally looked over my MetroCard purchases for the past three months, and I spend easily $70 a month on them. Might as well get the $90 monthly pass. At least I won’t have to bother with topping off my card each week.

My goal to stop my hemohrraging (sp?) of money, I think, has been successful. My net worth is about $50 more than it was last pay period, so my money-saving measures have paid off. I just need to be frugal until December, so I can come visit everyone in CA.

I’m excited to turn in my story on Monday. I’m going to revise it one more time after the weekend is over so I can have some new insights into it. My bus is 20 minutes late. No shoes for me, I surmise.

(Posted from my phone, plz excuse spelling)

I didn’t think I could do that 0

Today, I got all in my workout outfit, and was going to head down to the university gym. However, to get to the gym I have to walk by the whole sports complex track/football/baseball/etc. I saw the track calling out my name and I thought “Hell, why not?”

I walked around once, then put on my jam, and jogged around four more times. I couldn’t believe I’d done a mile. Now I’m waiting for my knees to be in terrible pain, but it hasn’t happened yet. We’ll see what happens when my muscles cool down.

Also, I weighed myself on the doctor-style scale at the gym, and I was 160 pounds. I’ve never been that low, not for years, not since high school. This curious East Coast life must agree with me. Also, I’ve been working it into my days to go to the gym all the days I’m here for school.

Quite frankly, I’ve never felt better. I live walking distance from a massive library, a track to run on, a gym, and a cafeteria with awesome free food. Well, I have class at 4pm, so I should probably get out of my jogging clothes. I think I’ll keep my contacts in though, it felt good wearing sunglasses (it’s unseasonably warm and sunny today).

My energy level is zero right now. I need to put on some good tunes and get changed. Ooh, I’ll have the last chocolate chip cookie in the bag. Sugar high! *zing*

I wish I was a polar bear 1

It’s my third up of tea. Red tea, then white tea, then red again. I need to study the imperfect and preterite tense in Spanish, but I’ve been editing my story for hours upon hours. I even changed the title.

Here’s the revised version.

My wrists hurt. I need acupuncture. Or a wrist massage. Something.

If you’re curious about the title, listen to this awesome electro song.

I don’t know why, but I’ve been really into super-crisp, high-production-value electro these days. I guess I need something that lets me rock through the revision process. I think I’m going to start one of my new books / go to sleep.

annoyances of living in Wayne 1

I’d like to rewrite a section of my story. I’d also like to work on my women’s studies homework. I’d also like to respond in depth to a few work e-mails, but I can’t.

My roommates are blasting football on two TVs, and there are no available study rooms at the library. FML. How am I supposed to write papers here? I’m not living on campus next semester, fuck this shit.

I’m passing the time in the student lounge, where they play Dave Matthews Band and Nickelback on repeat. *shudder*

Instead of delving into the new Calvino novel I picked up (and a delicious-looking tome on absurdism and dada in theatre), here I am, ignoring my roomates.

I studied up on the application requirements for ColumbiaAnd NYU this afternoon. The PhD program at Columbia takes six years, apparently. I just had to have all my paperwork in order by December of next year. I have to take my GREs and have some kind of 20 page long writing sample to send Columbia.

I wonder if I still have to write all of those admissions essays that they wanted as an undergraduate. We’ll see.

I finally got into a study room after waiting in that Nickelback infested hell. Time to do some writing.

omfg it’s 4 a.m. and I just finished working on my story 1

I’d better get an A on this shit, or else.

I know it would be better if I hadn’t managed to forget my draft that had all of the suggestions that my peer reviewer mentioned.

Anyway, here it is. Post feedback in the comments.

Yes, Jon, many of these fictionalized scenes I lifted from places we went and such. Might make this story seem a bit more strange. Or will having experienced the real events pre-fictionalization make it a better read?

Also, in case you’re all wondering, the address is a deli.

El autobus 0

I’m writing this from my phone on the bus to New York. I’m going to see Capitalism: A Love Story with John, and then head over to either the Holy Fuck show or Mondo. Haven’t decided yet.

I just downloaded this awesome app for Android that let’s me post stuff easily from my phone, even with pictures!

Took my mom’s drive to Tekserve today and they said that that specific Seagate drive had a design flaw that made it fail in a particularly spectacular way. So it’s going to cost a fortune to get her data back. Have to send it to a company in California with a clean room.

In a bit more positive tech news, I’m getting an 802.11n router that works on the 5GHz band to fend off all the wifi interference we’ve been getting. It’s expensive, but we need reliable Internet.

I was going to go to some random show I looked up on the fly last night, but I got to the venue early. So I went to a Williamsburg bar, broke out The Cosmic Puppets, and astonishingly read it cover to cover (between $2 PBRs). I couldn’t help but think of Andrew reading and driking at The Depot.

I met Jon later and we went to this eandearingly sleazy bar called Eastern Bloc, with soviet propaganda posters everywhere.

Well, I’m nearing the Tunnel so I should sign off.
