Blogrolls and such! 0

I went for an awesome and satisfying bike ride to Target to get a tire pump for my bike (they were getting a bit low), and now I’m munching on an organic carrot and trying to figure out what to do until my coffee date.

Oh, I remember. So I included a list of the blogs I read, but sadly it’s mostly out of date. If you aren’t listed, just leave your blog URL in the comments or send me an e-mail (if you’re more of a lurker). I added Stevemo’s (nsfw) tumblr today.

This one’s an audio post, guys. TL;DR: I’m getting a new microphone so I can post more often, I’ve been reading Calvino, the 50th anniversary of Camus’ death, concerts, and the impending start of school.

morning sci-fi 0

I just wanted to make a brief mention of one of the most fantastic albums I’ve downloaded in a long time, Hybrid’s Morning Sci-Fi. I always liked Hybrid since I downloaded I Choose Noise (The title track is the soundtrack to a voyage to the fifth dimension), but I read about how Morning Sci-Fi was one of the most innovative electronic albums like, ever, and I have to say it lives up to that billing. Exhibit A: “Higher Than a Skyscraper.”

I love how the sound of the symphony is weaved into the fabric of the track until it builds to the crescendo around 4:00.

Anyway, the past few days I’ve spent at my aunt’s house in South Jersey. It snowed the first day we were here, so the kids and I went out and sledded (fast-forward to 5:04),

He was six inches shorter than me.

I’ve been reading Calvino’s Invisible Cities this week, and it’s wonderful. Tonight, since I can’t find Invisible Cities, I’m reading Four Arguments for the Elimination of Television. I swear, every page is quotable.

“It was as though the war hadn’t happened, or was merely another action-packed drama, replaced by next season’s schedule, with the same actors playing new, equally believable roles” -Re: the Vietnam War

“Bringing down Nixon was just as good for ratings as supporting him. Better. More action. The only goals of the machine are to continue to be the real power behind the throne, no matter who is king, and to remain the primary factor in all public perception.”

“Products are inherently communicable on television because of their static quality, sharp, clear, highly visible lines, and because they carry no informational meaning beyond what they themselves are. They contain no life at all and are therefore not capable of dimension. Nothing works better as telecommunication than images of products. Might television itself have no higher purpose?”
